Started by 1938, by Lee Byung-Chull in 1939, Samsung remains one of the leading electronics producers world over. It has been engaged with manufacturing TVs of course but also devises like smartphones and microchips.
Notably, the early 200s notoriously saw the dawn of the Samsung Galaxy series, and around the same time, the company supplying Apple with her earliest microprocessors.
As for televisions, Samsung has by far been the industry leader to date starting around 2006.
The rise to this position is attributed to a mixed bag of causes not least the commitment of Mr. Byung and his successors but also unfortunately, their not very good manners sometimes –corruption for example.
There are a couple of reasons why you might not be able to find you the power button on your TV. It could be for example due to the fact that you are have bought a Samsung TV for the first time or that you have switched from one version to another in which case the locations differ etc.
And of course, your phone is a quicker alternative to say asking a neighbor later on giving someone money to help you or even reading the long boring manuals that come with the screens.
I have not mentioned here the embarrassment you might experience when someone else learns that you can’t find what should otherwise be a simple thing!
If I have just talked you, then you are in the right place and to directly answer your question, Samsung TVs come in very many different forms and so it is not possible to tell you a one size fits all answer.
I shall however, tell you about each of the TVs and the places you can find the buttons. The knowledge is for you to use as you wish!
Why Power Buttons?
The importance of these buttons cannot be emphasized. While it is likely that there is one that you already know by coming over to read this piece, it does not know knowing one extra. You never know when you might need it.
There are functions that TVs will do that can be done by say a remote but there are times when you may have misplaced such a device.
It helps to sort out the issue at hand and worry later about looking. I am thinking here of switching the TV ‘off’ and then ‘on’.
There are other functions though that only a Samsung TV switch will do. A good example is ‘cold-booting’.
This is particularly because modern TVs serve functions extending beyond going from channel to channel on your decoder. They can store music, and movies et al.
These functions can tend to be disrupted if the TV has not been entirely switched off entirely say when the output begins to appear sluggish and in instances when memory difficulties begin to manifest.
These won’t be need a mechanic though as the problem is often accumulation of residual discharge overtime.
Cold-booting is not that difficult. Turn on the TV, now press and hold the power button to switch off. Press the button again while holding this time until the TV restarts.
As soon as it has done so, then you are set to go. There is no need to wait moments between switching on and off by the way. It just works fine turning it off and then on immediately after.
The Different Kinds of TVs there are
As earlier said, without knowing the type of television that you have, there is no way you will find its power button.
Different features are placed differently on different Televisions. And the thing is, Samsung has all these types of TVs except those run on now obsolete technologies.
The variations are so many though; we will only look at those you most likely to own.
Generally speaking, you can distinguish one Television from another dependent on its appearance, the technology used, and then the number of pixels that their images propel.
As it sounds, appearance is about how the TV looks. That may mean that you have a flat screen or curved one. These are all modern and can at their best run on 4k and 8k technology.
8k TVs are the most precious image displaying televisions that very few TV stations actually with cameras of their capacity.
The TVs have a pixel arrangement of 7,680 horizontally and 4,320 vertically. Slightly below it 4k with a pixels arrangement of 3,840 horizontally and 2,160 vertically.
The advantage with these TVs is that there more televisions that broadcast with matching systems.
The other examples under the category above are 1080, QLEDs, LCDs and OLEDs. At the same time, you can decide to instead look at them in terms of the technology with which they are manufactured.
A major distinction key between OLEDs and LCDs for example is that the former TVs use of organic light-emitting diodes instead of LED lights.
The diodes glow when electricity is passed through them and so, they are bound to produce a better quality picture.
To all the mentioned attributes, Samsung has added its own differentiations. The Samsung Frame TV for instance, is able to function like a Frame by displaying a picture of your choice once you are through with viewing. Moreover, as opposed to a physical portrait, you can always change the displays from time to time.
The Serif on the other hand comes with its own stands meaning that you don’t have to worry about damaging your wall because of hanging a TV.
The Sero is perhaps the best of those listed here as you can carry it with you into an outdoor setting and still watch whatever you wish to during day time. Its display is that powerful and its light will adjust depending on how the weather changes.
The other obvious variance regards the TV inches. From 35 to 43 and from 65 to 85. Again, all these features overlap. A TV may be a 4k Samsung Frame while being of a flat screen appearance.
Obviously, a TV can be only one thing in either categories so a Sherif can’t be a Sero too. The only exception comes with the image displaying in which case a television can display in all formats below it. 8ks can show TV stations that broadcast in 1080p though it can’t be the other way round.
In all instances that you switch your 1080p to channels whose cameras are 8k, it will instead convert the display into a lower resolution automatically.
Where the Buttons are Actually located
Here are the options that you should try if at all you can’t seem to find the power button. The article has only stuck with the peculiar positions as the others can hardly missed.
An example is a power button located at the front especially if it is one that is attached to the screen.
1. Back right side
For most of the people reading this, it is very likely that you did not see the button because it is at the back. Producers do this otherwise not commendable choice because it is one that allows you more watching space at the front.
For a Samsung TV, you should start by checking the right side. This is something that you might have to do without seeing if your TV is mounted on a wall. It is thus greatly advised that you located the power button first before hanging your device.
Some televisions help avoid that though by providing stands as we have seen already.
2. Right underside
This positioning hidden too. It is not a place that you can immediately see. The best way to describe it is that if at all you lifted the TV (a flat screen at that), the button would be located to the right of the point that you see.
The IR receiver (the one that transmits signals between the television and the remote) is located around the same place for Samsung TVs.
So if you know where it is placed, you shouldn’t look very far from it. This position is also designed not to take any of your watching space as well.
3. Middle underside
This point is rather close to the one immediately described above. Again, it will be under your television and since you might not be able to easily tilt it, it is easier to feel it with your fingers instead. If you are confident that you have not sensed anything to your right, then slowly bring your hand towards the middle.
You should be able to feel some rubber as you approach the center. And that is the power button. Alternatively, you can be guided by the Samsung logo which is often visible at the TV fore. You will find the button right under the location.
4. Touch Controls
These are not physical buttons per se but rather touch sensitive and they are embedded within the TV. On the outside, their location is flat such that it appears to be a continuation of the rest of the screen. The only distinguishing feature is a white coating.
The button functions just like smartphones. One tap will switch off/on your set. Often, the location is to the front bottom right of the screen. In other cases though, you may check with the left instead.
Switching Off v Standby
To be sure, you might be thinking to yourself that perhaps the power button is not as useful since you can for example use a remote control to turn the TV off. While in thinking this way you would be sharing a common thought, it is also a common mistake.
In real sense, what you would be doing then is have the television switch to ‘standby’ mode. In these cases, your set would continue to consume power for example (though it not much power to be fair).
There are a couple other things that the set will continue to do when in standby mode. It will for example, still function as a smart speaker for those that have the capacity.
Again, this is when the frames that I elaborated on earlier can be displayed. TVs that are sensitive to the ‘turn off’ and ‘turn on’ instructions when spoken by a person will not respond too when the power button is pressed.
More advantages of standby mode include the fact that you don’t have to wait so long for the TV to start again once you decide to start watching again.
What would have been a thirty seconds wait if the television had been switched off becomes about just three seconds. The slowness here owes to the fact that TVs are made of chips that are weaker than say, phones.
That said, there are times when you want to fully disconnect. Perhaps it is reading time or you need to grab a nap. That is only something that the power button can help you out.
Alternative Ways
Assuming that you have still not located the power button and that you are in a hurry, here are quick alternatives available to you.
1. Remote
Obviously, the TV remote will only have your television flipped into ‘standby’ mode. That can be good enough though in some cases e.g. if you are not yet able to leave the place where you are seated. Where your situation is much worse say, when your remote sensor is defective, an option available to you is using a universal sensor.
2. Game Console
Probably very few people know about this particular option, but yeah a gaming console can work miracles. Let’s take a case of PS4.
You will need to switch your PS on and then go to ‘settings’ and then choose the option of ‘system settings’, and finally ‘enable HDMI device link’. Once you have linked your PS with the television, you can switch it off and then on again. That should start your TV.
Knowing however, that not every person with a television equally has a play station, we shall proceed to yet another possibility.
3. Joystick
Given the price of TVs these days, it can be daunting to buy one and find that you seem not to locate the power button notwithstanding the efforts that you have put in. In real time, it would mean that you cannot in fact use the TV at all. Samsung is alive to this fact and so they have allowed for extra options.
The good thing with a joystick is that it is more visible in contrast to a power button. It is also a form of a switch in real sense i.e. it does not place the set in standby mode.
It will switch it off completely. It takes the shape of a tiny handle and it is located behind the TV in most cases and in others underneath.
You can use it by pressing an even tinier button in the middle of the writings ‘on’ and ‘off’. It is at this point that the television should get back on.
4. Applications
Smartphone applications will allow you use your phone in the place of a remote control. They carry with them the weaknesses identified under TV remotes but are otherwise very efficient.
One example is Roku. It should be available in your app store so you can download it first. It will discover your television soon after if it is on by default.
Connection will be automatic too in some cases depending of the type of TV that you own. From there you can proceed to switch it off and on at a later time as you wish.
